Alaram Weaving and Tailoring Workshop This remarkable program not only employs disabled and able-bodied villagers alike, it provides a substantial portion of GRRC's revenues to support other program activities. The program began in a small shed, where weavers loomed traditional plaid lungi -- the sarong-like garment worn by the men of Tamilnadu. the workshop now employs 55 weavers and tailors, who are producing the highest quality cotton handloomed fabrics and garments. Click here to take a look at the beautiful khadi fabrics and clothing designs. Recently, we have begun sourcing organic cotton and all-natural dyes, creating cloth that is not only gorgeous, but in keeping with our philosophy of sustainability, tradition, and concern for the environment. |
