Disability Identification and Treatment Centre GRRC
started a polio treatment centre in 1987, and it served as a vital
source of diagnosis and treatment, through the eradication of new polio
cases around the turn of the new century. SInce that time, we have
re-focused our efforts on other crippling disabilities.
Village outreach is an important part of our work, and we have two
social workers who regularly survey the surrounding rural villages and
refer patients to our care.
Our
orthopedic workshop produces and maintains calipers, crutches, and
artificial limbs. In extreme cases of deformity, we are able to
arrange surgeries for patients who otherwise would not have access to
advanced procedures. Our staff has been trained in the neuro-functional
reorganization method.
In recent years we have been working to assist the mentally disabled
children, helping them attain essential life skills.
All our work emphasizes community-based rehabilitation, where the
patient's family and the greater village social structures play a role
in our efforts. |
